Astigmatic Keratotomy uses incisions in the cornea to reduce astigmatism. Originally astigmatic keratotomy was combined with
radial keratotomy surgery. Now it is a very common procedure performed at the time of cataract surgery to reduce astigmatism.
With Astigmatic Keratotomy the surgeon makes incisions in a curved fashion near the junction of the clear cornea and white
sclera. These incisions are often referred to as Limbal Relaxing Incisions.
Limbal Relaxing Incisions are an excellent alternative to LASIK for patients with astigmatism only or patients with astigmatism
following cataract and corneal transplant surgery.
